Chapter 12 Silia Lovely Bottom
23:10
When Silia Lovely Bottom left the dark abyss of underground dungeons everything was different. They forgot about her, leaving her not for a month but for a couple of months. Under different circumstances, she would have been furious, but when she appeared on the surface all officials changed and she didn’t know who to blame anymore. She almost hibernated, deprived of the sun, drinking only water and eating bread. She was emaciated and honestly surprised when she passed in the corridor Debbie Honest, handcuffed and taken to another cell. She didn’t know what to make of the situation when she spotted this funny little dwarf from Underground Wireless, who had a distinguishable voice of a giant but was one of the smallest dwarfs she had ever laid her eyes on.
It was a different Kindergarten that she came to witness. The Highest Dwarf was dead and his place was taken by Ginger George. Silia had known the Highest Dwarfs well, it was his seduction that she had been planning for months as a young dwarf herself. He happened to be the highest level official she had ever physical relations with.
Little was known about Silia except that her great-great-grandmother had an affair with a human. Silia significantly took after her grandmother, she inherited her looks and her wit. Silia also once had an affair with a human. No one knew about it as it wasn’t until this day discovered by anyone in the dwarf community. She was in love and she was discreet about it. It wasn’t a happy ending, quite the reverse, it was a tragic story on her part. She was left when most vulnerable, heartbroken and expecting a child. In other circumstances, she would have been killed by this baby (or rather its size), but she lost it in the middle of the pregnancy and buried it in the human forest far away from the Kindergarten and entrances to the underground mines. That year changed her. She grew to be a different Silia. She didn’t rely on love, as love could and did hurt her. She also didn’t rely on dwarfs, since she digested her personal loss on her own and couldn’t confess to anyone that she had a forbidden relationship with the human. On the other hand, she grew to be insensitive, ambitious and driven to power. All her efforts she transferred to climbing high and associating with those who had this power within their reach.
In time, she sensed that there was something wrong with the system. Taking into account her personal experiences, she was irritated by the fact that for over two thousand years none of the highest dwarfs was a woman. She was angry about the fact that dwarf-human interaction law had its flaws, making in her eyes dwarf women victims bigger than dwarf men. She had a mission. She slept with all highest officials and, to make herself feel better, she contributed to their loss of toes. She waged her own little war for justice.
When Richard Innocent came to the Kindergarten, she reminded herself of the months of her first love, these blissful moments of happiness when she deluded herself that everything was going to be fine and she and her human would build a family. Humans, however, are tricky. Men are tricky. Silia was to learn the hard way about it. She would have never been accepted by the human family and she would have never been accepted in the world of humans. After she was abandoned, her lover got married and had a dozen human children with his human wife. She also wanted to give him children, she loved him deeply and she was able to risk her small size to make him happy. Little did she know, that men easily forget and move on. Little did she know that her everything was for him just an episode of infatuation and lost senses.
And even though her human love was long dead (time flies differently for humans and dwarfs), she still visited the grave of her stillborn child to pay its respects. Humans were to influence her life forever.
If Silia hadn’t been as emaciated after these lonesome nights in the dungeon, others would have noticed that she was for the second time with a baby. It was a half human child and she was sure of it just like women know intuitively things which they have no control over. And because Silia had little food in the dungeon, the child grew small and she wasn’t afraid of having her body torn apart. It was a paradox for Silia to have a child again, and again with a human, whom she seduced just once. Richard Innocent wasn’t even aware of the fact and was never supposed to know the truth.
Everything was different now. Human-dwarf interaction seemed to be legal but there were a lot of things illegal and the Kindergarten wasn’t a place to be enjoyed. Silia disappeared for a while, she went to deep forests and stayed there until the childbirth. It was a small and lovely child that she welcomed after bearable hours of pain. She nurtured him for some time, but she knew that there was no place in the Kindergarten for the child and her. She asked birds and forest creatures to locate a house where there was a couple of humans who couldn’t have children and wanted the child badly. She put her son in the basket, added some rubies, diamonds, and sapphires to secure his future and left him one dawn at the door of a poor but kind family, who were more than happy about the gift.
Then, she ate to regain her strength, exposed herself to the sun to regain her colors and swam in the lakes to regain her figure. Renewed and refreshed, she returned to the Kindergarten with only one mission.
It wasn’t true that Silia didn’t find power attractive. She was seduced by it as most women are at some point in their lives. They need security and power gives some sort of security. They are driven to intelligence as this intelligence guarantees survival. Possibly Silia would have grown to be an independent woman with years of experience in her job, just like Debbie Honest. But Debbie was a different dwarf, she wasn’t driven by emotions, she was tough. She wasn’t afraid of having her heart broken by a man, as she was like a man herself, she liked girls and gave them a sense of security that many male dwarfs couldn’t give them. Silia had her ancestors’ blood and carried with pride her ancestors’ surname: Lovely Bottom meant more than just having a cute, round and soft buttocks. It meant pride.
She chose one night, a distant anniversary of her first time with her human lover, when she went straight into Ginger George’s room. Billy Strong Fist and Jack Potato were lying drunk in front of the doors. She passed them quietly and entered the room. Ginger George was asleep. When she mounted him, he opened his eyes.
‘Hush, Georgy’, Silia placed her finger on his lips.
Ginger George was terrified. After two minutes, Silia left the room, not dwelling much on Ginger George’s experience or the lack of it. She went straight to the dungeon and announced to the judges.
‘I slept with Ginger George’.
The screams were apparently heard in the neighboring city when Ginger George had his little toe cut off by the sharp edge of the ax. He didn’t take it well as he was weak and wasn’t resistant to pain.
‘I want her dead!’, he screamed to the judges, holding his foot. ‘I WANT HER DEAD!’
There wasn’t an official rule that stated that dwarf can be killed for an extra-marital affair, but Ginger George established one very quickly.
They took Silia from the dungeons, her brown curls making her that day lovely and beautiful. In the crowd, she saw Richard Innocent, the father of her only child. She noticed Wonderful Wendy in tears of compassion, being moved or possibly afraid that it can also be her own fate. He saw a tearful face of Johnny Cutie and a pale face of Stevie Mushroom, who held his wife by her hand and whispered some words of consolation. Silia saw everything, but her thoughts were somewhere else then, they were with the baby that was happily nurtured by a human pair, they were with her only love and these moments of naive happiness she had only once experienced, they were with all these little toes to which amputations she contributed over the last decades. She was grateful. She didn’t feel much when the ax fell on her neck and separated her head from her body. All fell quiet and Silia needed this quietness so much at the time.
Only Ginger George ran onto the stage, took Silia’s head and exposed it to the gathered crowd with a howl, showing what he is capable of.
The crowd spread in silence. There was no enthusiasm, no cheer. But all remembered that day well, as it was an introduction to many terrible sights dwarfs were yet to see.
